The Mesa Rotary Club International
Service Committee provides members an opportunity to support
and provide acts of service to various areas of the world. Some
of our regular events include the following:
- Guaymas - The first weekend of December club members
fly to Guaymas and distribute gifts to the children of Gyaymas.
Through a rich tradition club members donate funds, as they
feel they can, at the beginning of each November. These
funds are used to buy toys and provide support to assure
families a wonderful Christmas. In addition, club members
meet at Falcon Field the Wednesday prior to the first December
weekend to pack toys and load the planes.
- Honduras and Rocky Point, Mexico - Typically during
either spring break or the Christmas holiday break, club
members travel to these areas to build homes for families
in need. This is done in conjunction with an organization
called Families Helping Families. In addition to homebuilding,
educational and health care interests are pursued and developed
among the individuals living in Honduras and Rocky Point.
- Care for Life - Through our Mesa Rotary Foundation
account we provide financial support to three care centers
in Central Mozambique. The care centers teach women how
to read and write, learn health care and agriculture skills.
- Exchange Students - Our club has a rich history
of having a Rotary exchange student live with club members
during the school year. Exchange students attend Mountain
View High School in Mesa. Relationships are developed that
last for years.
- Sister Cities & Wheelchairs for Peace - Recently
we have been given the opportunity to work with Sister Cities
to provide financial donations that allow for wheelchairs
to be distributed throughout the world. Donations are provided
by individual club members and our Mesa Rotary Foundation.
